Maisie says she’s going to be a poet when she grows up. Sometimes a poet-zookeeper. Sometimes “a poet and a storier [like her dad] and a mom.” One time she said “Mom, I’m a better poet than you are because you just write story-poems and I write real poems.” I didn’t tell her her anti-narrative stance was so 1999. Children must find their own way in all things.
