i'm shocked, shocked to find there's social activity going on here.

Facebook users have more close friendships and enjoy higher levels of support from their friends and families than non-users. They’re also more trusting and more likely to engage in political activities such as attending rallies. MySpace users are more open to alternative viewpoints. And those who use instant messaging report having more people they can confide in. Some of these effects have to do with demographic factors — for instance, higher education levels correlate positively with use of social networking sites and negatively with measures of social isolation. But some persisted even after the researchers adjusted for demographics. And there was no evidence whatsoever to indicate that Web-enabled communications services are impoverishing their users’ social or emotional lives.
