blogs, war theory & performance art

Not so much a hoax but rather a very elaborate electronic masque, I suppose. Well, I guess I’m glad that they didn’t fully sucker me, but they still had me going in different directions!  Still, I feel a little snookered.  Oh, well.  It was a good caper! The guy who runs the collective compared the gaggle to The Beatles and said that they got the idea for it in 2006.  They’re politically to the right and there really is a “poster child” named Courtney – it’s her Facebook page and some of the images that they use – but they say that they should be thought of as an experiment of sorts.

In late July Carl Prine of Line of Departure got in touch with a young & decidedly post-tumblr war theory blogger named Courtney Messerschmidt. Her blog Great Satan's Girlfriend mixed trash art, cultural commentary, and foreign policy analysis conducted in a weird gum-snapping argot, and Prine wanted to know more about her outlook. The resulting weirdly creepy interview demolished Prine's records for traffic on a post.

Prine did a little doubting, and then a little looking, and discovered that "Courtney Messerschmidt" is a performance art piece run out of Georgia.
